LSU Fans in Milwaukee Save Drowning Wisconsin Man's Life in 'Stunning Rescue'

MILWAUKEE, WI — A group of LSU football fans from Louisiana who were enjoying drinks at Milwaukee's Rock Bottom Brewery near the Milwaukee River Monday heard something they didn't expect: a woman screaming for help.

According to a report from The Advocate, Jill Dunlap, 47, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, said her husband, a colonel in the Louisiana National Guard, and a friend leaped to the aid of a 60-year-old man who fell into the Milwaukee River and saved his live.

They had traveled to Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Saturday to watch their beloved LSU Tigers take on the Wisconsin Badgers and were passing through Milwaukee on Labor Day.

"My friend Ron found a rope and fashioned it into a stirrup so that he could put one foot in to it," Dunlap said, according to a KFVS report out of Missouri. "He had enough leg strength to push himself up and grab him by the pants," said Ron Duplessis, a fellow LSU fan who helped with the rescue.

Eventually they pulled him to safety. It's a rescue they didn't think was heroic, just neighborly.

"It took three men to get him out," Jill Dunlap told the Advocate. "The whole place started cheering. The man (who was rescued) started crying and he's like, 'I'm not a good swimmer and I appreciate what you did.'"

According to a report from WISN in Milwaukee, names and numbers weren't exchanged, but the man who was rescued was clearly grateful for the quick actions of those nearby, they said.

"You know, when you're drowning, we'll accept a lot of people. An Alabama fan might not have been so fortunate," Duplessis said to WISN 12, with a laugh.

The LSU fans left Tuesday without ever knowing the name of the man they rescued.
