Safety Prevention and Safety Intervention - Kathleen Murphy

May 26, 2015

Dear MARY,

Many people consider Memorial Day to be the official start of the summer season. With the warming temperatures, many families will venture to the pool, beach, river, or lake to cool off and enjoy the sunshine. While playing in the sun and water can be a lot of fun for the whole family, there are certain safety measures that need to be taken to keep infants and children safe in these situations.

Through both text messages and a mobile page, Text4baby reminds moms and dads of the importance of never leaving baby alone near water, even in the bath tub. Protecting baby from sunburn is also an important concern since childhood sunburns can increase the chance of getting skin cancer well into the future. Parents can find sun safety tips through our texts, our mobile page, and from our partners at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC).

Remind the families that you work with about the magnitude of being vigilant in the sun and around water, so that everyone can have a fun and safe summer!

==============================

Moms, do not forget the tips above for baby. We know that they can be “so fast” in a moment while they are near or in water. Remember to tighten the tube, jar or bottle with the protection for sunburns.
