Back in May 2021, President McKaig expressed interest in aligning Shorewood initiatives related to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) with the Milwaukee County resolution for racial equity. Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley invited community leaders to join the Dismantling Barriers to Creating Diverse and Inclusive Communities Strategies Team. President McKaig, School Board President Shah and I continue to participate with this team as the work will soon be incorporated into a forthcoming strategic plan on equity. To help align Shorewood's approach to achieving racial equity with the rest of Milwaukee County, the Village Board adopted a resolution Monday, October 18 that outlines the framework to do so. The framework is organized into four areas: education, awareness, training, and policy. This framework will be shared with the Village's leaders and community partners to identify how each partners' work ties into the metro-wide approach to EDI issues and achieving racial equity, including the recent affordable housing discussions and considerations with the Community Development Authority. For those interested in viewing the adopted resolution,Β click here and turn to page 52.
