4G Service Likely for Village

Committee recommends U.S. Cellular be allowed to place a 4G antenna atop village water tower.

Sussex residents with U.S. Cellular phones may soon see an upgrade in service.

The Water Commission Tuesday recommended allowing U.S. Cellular to install antennas on top of the village's Woodside water tower so that the company can provide 4G service to area customers. The project could be completed in fall if U.S. Cellular receives the required final approvals from the village.

Village staff recommended a wind calculation study be done on the effect of additional antennas at the top of the tower to ensure it is safe. Staff said the village's contractual agreement between U.S. Cellular also will require minor changes.

The project will not require additional room inside a shed at the base of the tower, where cell service providers keep their equipment, and will not interfere with other service providers.
