What's Cooking at Sofia's: My Grandmother's Orange Torte

A nice sweet orange torte that is pretty easy to make and looks absolutely beautiful at a dinner party.

I have made this recipe quite a few times and was actually chosen a while back for the Entree section of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. People have loved it, yet I cannot take full credit as this was yet another of my Grandmother's recipes.

I did, however, adjust it to today's taste and it's one I often get compliments on. Also, it is a perfect recipe to try with blood oranges which are in season just for a littel longer now.

INGREDIENTS

6 eggs
1.5 cups of sugar
juice from two large oranges (approx. 1 cup)
1 tbps cornstartch
a little white sugar to add at the end

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat the oven to 335degrees
  2. Dissolve the cornstarch with the juice from 1 orange
  3. Add the eggs and sugar and beat until all mixed well together
  4. Place parchement paper over a large oven tray (13"x14") and butter it well
  5. Pour the mixture over it and make sure it is all uniformed
  6. Place it in the oven for about 25 minutes
  7. Remove it from the oven, let it stand for 5 minutes
  8. Cut around the edges prior to rolling the torte and it will help not to break (do not throw it out though, enjoy and eat it!)
  9. Then roll to form a torte
  10. Add the remainder orange juice over the torte and sprinkle with white sugar
