Crisis Hotline Will Stay Despite Mental Health Association's Dissolution

The Mental Health Association in Waukesha County will continue to operate its crisis phone line despite its decision Monday to dissolve its operations. 

Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas announced Thursday that the county would continue to fund the MHA so it may continue to operate First Call for Help at (262) 547-3388, according to a news release. The MHA announced Monday that it would dissolve due to decreased funding from the United Way of Waukesha County, Waukesha County government and the community. 

Starting Thursday, 211 services will no longer be provided by the MHA.  The 211 calls in Waukesha County will be answered by other experienced 211 call centers in Wisconsin without interruption of service. The 211 service connects Wisconsinites to community-based health and human services resources. 

Organized in 1963, the MHA developed several programs that included a 24/7 blended helpline, counseling center, outreach programs in non-traditional settings, education, suicide prevention and crisis response.
