
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 Tbs. water
6 oz. chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp almond extract
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking power
1 cup flour
1/2 cup walnuts or pecans or well-drained halved maraschino cherries (optional)
In a medium sized heavy saucepan, melt butter. Add sugar and water. Bring to a boil. Cook 1 minute stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add chips and extracts and beat until chips are melted. Cool slightly while you beat eggs and chop the nuts. Add well beaten eggs and blend well. Add dry ingredients and nuts. Pour into a well greased 9 x 9 inch pan. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes. Cool completely. Refrigerate for easier cutting.
Makes 16 small bars.
