You Paid For It...Make It Last!
Computers make life so much easier...when they are working correctly. Below are a few tips to increase the longevity of your computer, and perhaps reduce some unneeded stress down the road:1) Keep Your Virus Protection Current
Again, virus protection programs are great...when they are working correctly. To keep them fighting against even the most current viruses, you need to make sure that your virus protection is updated. Most of the time, your antivirus program will update itself, or let you know when a new version is out, but it doesn't hurt to take a look at the program and see if it is telling you to update it.
2) Keep your Operating System Current
Did you know that Microsoft is no longer supporting Windows XP? That means if you are running Microsoft XP, you may be more susceptible to viruses or spyware because Microsoft is no longer updating the system to keep up with the latest hacking techniques. If you have sensitive data on your computer, we really advise upgrading from XP to Windows 7 or 8.
3) Get Regular Tune-Ups
I know, it is a pain, but sometimes, just getting your computer tuned up will increase the longevity of your computer. By reducing the clutter 2 or 3 times a year, your computer will not be bogged down with unnecessary files or programs. This means you computer will run faster for a longer time!
4) Keep Your Computer Clean
Dust can actually cause problems with your computer. Fans can be cluttered with dust, and not be able to cool your computer. This will cause your computer to overheat, or run slowly. Bring your computer into a technician and have them blow out your computer. You'll be glad you did!
5) Keep Your Computer in A Dry, Room Temperature Place
Computers hate moisture and heat. Many parts inside the computer are sensitive to heat or moisture, so make sure that you keep your computer in an area that is room temperature and dry. NEVER leave your computer in a car in the summer. Also, If you leave your computer in your car over the winter, wait a couple minutes until it feels room temperature before you turn it on.
