Sports Bar to Fill Former Hardee's Restaurant
Construction is underway on the new Rumors Sports Bar and Grill at the corner of Main Street and Waukesha Avenue.
Sussex sports fans will soon have another location choice for watching events such as Major League Baseball, the NFL and next year’s Final Four. The owners of the new Rumors Sports Bar and Grill expect to open their doors at W232N6368 Waukesha Ave. sometime in June.
The location was formerly a Hardee’s restaurant. Last fall, the village Plan Commission approved the construction project to transform the building into the new sports bar.
“It’s going to be a sports bar and grill with bar-type food and televisions for watching sports games,” said Village Administrator Jeremy Smith. “It will be another place our residents to hang out with their friends. We have a lot of dynamic businesses in the community to support the different tastes and appreciations of the community.”

The owners of Rumors actually live in Soldotna, AK, which is about 145 miles south of Anchorage. That may sound far away, but Tom and Andrea Reece do have a Sussex connection. Andrea grew up in the area.
“I grew up right outside Sussex and my family is still there,” said Reece. “I went to school in Hartland. My sister and her husband will be running the bar. My husband, Tom, and I will be coming back to Sussex as much as we possibly can. Our jobs allow us to travel and we can come back and forth every month if we have to.”

Rumors Sports Bar and Grill will feature numerous flat screen TVs and the Reeces are reviewing final bids to determine exactly how many TVs the bar will have.
“We will have as much sports televised as we can,” said Reece. “We’ll also serve sandwiches, burgers, probably a few salads and appetizers but we’re going to focus on the sports bar. We think Sussex is a great location for a sports bar. There are other sports bars in the area but we’re going to offer something new and a little more refreshing. Not to say anything negative about the other bars but we just want to offer something a little more updated.”
Reece added that she has already received many positive comments about Rumors.
“People are really excited about it and so are we,” she said.
