Summer Road Projects Underway in Sussex

The village will rehabilitate more roads than normal this year in order to take advantage of lower costs.

Sussex has begun its 2011 roads projects to fix up some village roads. The projects are being divided into four areas:

  • Woodland Creek Drive, Edgewood Lane, White Ash Court, Twin Oaks Court and Chestnut Hill Road
  • Homestead Court, Canyon Meadows Court, Keystone Drive, Keystone Court, and the Good Hope Road and Waukesha Avenue intersection.
  • Lynn Anne Lane, Michele Lane, Lorraine Court, Meadow Lane, Homestead Road, Prairie Court and Prairie Lane.
  • Linda Drive, Salem Drive, Nancy Drive and Candlewick Drive.

The projects are expected to run through August. Village Administrator Jeremy Smith said the projects will involve fixing the top layers of the roads and repairing damaged curbs or sewer grates.

The village is also doing repair work on Tulip Lane, Tulip Court, Lilac Drive and Lilly Court north of Clover Drive to address water, sewer and storm sewer issues in the Spring Green North area.

Smith said the village is doing more projects than normal this year in order to take advantage of lower costs and savings from the federal Build America Bonds, which pays 35 percent of the interest of the bonds issued for the projects.

“We also went to bid in January so we will see some additional savings,” Smith said. “Because we went out to bid early we caught some good oil prices.”

Smith said savings will go back into the road projects fund to be used on future projects.
