Sussex Man Charged with Fourth OWI After Driving Through Waukesha with No Headlights On

A 38-year-old Sussex man is facing his fourth drunken driving charge after an officer spotted him driving through Waukesha with no headlights on early Sunday morning.

Alan M. Doss was charged with fourth offense OWI in Waukesha County Circuit Court Monday. If convicted, he faces up to one year in prison and $2,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, a Waukesha police officer was stopped on South West Avenue while a train passed by when he noticed another vehicle parked on the opposite side of the tracks with no headlights on. After the train passed, the officer turned around and pulled over Doss.

The complaint states Doss told the officer he had come from a bar and had been having a verbal fight with his wife, who was the passenger in the car, and then said his sister is a member of the Greenfield Police Department. He then asked for a break and begged for an opportunity to call his sister, which the officer refused.

Doss then failed a field sobriety test and had a blood alcohol level of 0.20 at the time of the incident.  

Doss was previously convicted of OWI in 1995, 1996 and 2003. He was freed from Waukesha County Jail Tuesday on $1,000 cash bond.
