Sussex Renames Nature Preserve with Eye Toward the Future

Butler Nature Preserve could include park areas down the road, village officials say.

What's in a name? Plenty, Sussex officials say.

And with that thought in mind, the Village Board has approved renaming the Butler Wetland to the Butler Nature Preserve.

With the change, officials said it will give a more appropriate name to the area and remove the connotations the word "wetland" can have.

The preserve, which is located on near Maple Avenue south of Good Hope Road, hasn’t been officially named in the past, but the new name can help suggest future uses for the land, such as walking trails or a community park.

“There’s nothing really planned for sure at this point,” Village Administrator Jeremy Smith said. “At some point in the future, there will be some projects.”
