Sussex to Flush Fire Hydrants this Week
Residents are being asked not to do laundry during the process and to look out for rusty water.

residents are being advised the village will be flushing out fire hydrants Tuesday through Thursday.
Village Administrator Jeremy Smith said residents are being asked not to do laundry during the flushing and to look out for rusty water during the flushing.
“There’s going to be some rust or discoloration in the water when flushing the hydrants,” he said.

Smith said the flushes are done every six months in order to replace stagnant water in certain areas of the village, which is due to low usage of the hydrants. By remaining stagnant, he said particulates settle in the water, which are not unhealthy, but they “wouldn’t be good tasting water.”
If residents notice rust or discoloration in their water, they’re advised to run a tap for five minutes.
