Village Board Approves Changes to Umbrella Ordinance

Restaurants with outdoor dining areas will be allowed to have logos on umbrellas above tables.

The Sussex Village Board on Tuesday unanimously approved the display of logos on umbrellas at outdoor dining areas.

With the change, village leaders said rules regulating the umbrellas and outdoor dining will allow businesses to operate easier.

“This was brought to my attention by a resident,” Village President Greg Goetz said. “This ordinance is just one of the ones we’re trying to clean up.”

Village leaders to outdoor dining in order to allow more businesses to offer it during summer. Because the umbrellas often come from vendors, the ordinance change will allow businesses to save money by accepting the umbrellas as opposed to purchasing them.

Under the new ordinance only business logos are allowed on the umbrellas and offensive material will not be allowed.
