Village Board Decides on Speed Tables
After complaints from residents and an ignored sign to slow down, Sussex has approved a bid for speed tables to slow traffic.
Residents living near the corner of Pewaukee Road and Ivy Avenue have caught the attention of the Village Board after complaining about speeding cars.
The board on Tuesday agreed to install "speed tables" near the intersection at a cost of about $20,000. Installation will take place in 2012. There’s a sign advising drivers to slow down in the area, but people living near the corner say it’s pointless.
“My wife went to a meeting so the village would put a ‘Slow Down. 10 MPH’ sign there, but drivers still go 30 mph around the corner,” said Shane Jones, a renter living right at the intersection. “Cars are coming around the corner and people are slamming on their brakes. Until a child gets killed, they won’t put a stop sign there.”

Much like a long speed bump, the speed tables will slow down traffic to please disgruntled neighbors.
Eric Nitschke, director of public works for Sussex, said the ideal solution would be to completely redesign the awkward intersection, but it’s far too expensive.

“I’m glad they’re doing something about it,” said Chris Benson while playing with his son near the intersection. “The 'slow' sign doesn’t help at all.”
