Village Sewer Rates Going Up by About $10 Per Year
Increase of 15 cents per 1,000 gallons usage is needed to offset rising operational and capital costs, officials say.

Village residents will see an increase in their sewer bills in the coming months.
The Sussex Village Board has raising the rate from $4.07 per 1,000 gallons of usage to $4.22 per 1,000 gallons of usage. The new rate will take effect July 1.
Village Administrator Jeremy Smith said the rate change will mean an increase of $10.50 per year for the average residential customer. Because the rate change is happening in the middle of the year, he said residents will only see a $5.25 increase this year.

The new rate is needed to cover ongoing operational and capital costs associated with the sewer system. While Village President Greg Goetz voted in favor of the rate hike last week, he said it’s important that village leaders keep an eye on sewer and water rates in the future.
“We don’t want to see a sudden spike,” he said.
