The 100 Best Places to Raise a Family in Wisconsin. Where Does Milwaukee Rank?

MILWAUKEE -- Just in time for Summer 2016, Niche.com took a look at the best places to raise a family in states across the country.

According to its rankings, Wisconsin offers more than a few possibilities.

In the national rankings, Devon, Pennsylvania earned top honors. In Wisconsin, it's all about Cedarburg. The Metro Milwaukee area took five of the top 10 spots with Elm Grove (2), Whitefish Bay (3), Brookfield (4), Mequon (9) and Fox Point (10) placing high in the rankings. Milwaukee missed the list by a ways, placing 213th in the state.

The lists were created using information about public schools, crime rates, cost of living and family-friendly amenities. Data was pulled from the U.S. Census, FBI, BLS, CDC and other sources, according to Niche.

Milwaukee is a large city in Wisconsin with 598,078 residents. It has low home values, average rent costs, and very high unemployment levels. Its citizens generally have average education levels and low income levels.

Crime & Safety at Williamsburg Heights: The crime in this city is at an all time high. Milwaukee is the poorest and most violent city in the state of Wisconsin. There is not a day going by without another homicide. I have not seen so many young people dying and commiting acts of violence until now. In the begining teens would be arrested for graffiti, vandalism, maybe even drugs. Now, teens are stealing vehicles, commiting murder and have no repect towards the law.

Overall Experience at McGovern Park: Where I use to stay was a great place to live and I would definitely go back. The crime rate wasn't as high as the rest of the town and everything was close by. I could always stay active because there was a park down the street. Also I never got hungry cause there were so many restaurants close by.

Overall Experience at Johnson's Woods: Milwaukee is heavily focused on in the media, especially for the crime that goes on in the area. I think the positives are not focused on especially in the media, giving the city of Milwaukee a bad representation. I think there is a ton of activities to do in the city for food, recreation, and especially entertainment. I would go back to Milwaukee after I graduate because I want to help create a positive impact in the community.
