6-Unit Apartment Complex Proposed For Main St.

WAUKESHA, WI — The owner of an otherwise vacant piece of property at 1116 E. Main Street is proposing to build six apartment units. The Waukesha Plan Commission is considering the application during a Jan. 10 meeting.

According to meeting documents, each unit will be a 2-story unit with 3 bedrooms, a 1 car attached garage, and range from 1,450 sq. ft. to about 1,650 sq. ft. The buildings will be constructed as 3 duplexes side by side and are situated on the site with front doors towards Main Street and the garages facing the alley.

The proposal is for six side-by-side townhouse style apartments. According to Waukesha Plan Commission documents, city staff feels that lower-density residential is an appropriate transition from the single-family and duplex homes to the west to the industrial uses to the east.

Each unit will be 2 stories high and have 3 bedrooms and a 1-car attached garage. They range in size from 1,450 to 1,650 square feet in area. According to meeting documents, the developer has worked to incorporate masonry into the building, specifically on the most visible facades from Main Street and Perkins Avenue.

The buildings are oriented towards Main Street with the driveways and garages behind the units. Access to the site will be from the existing alley off Perkins Avenue.

According to meeting documents, prior to final approval, city staff says they would like some additional landscaping, particularly at the corner of Main and Perkins and along the Main Street frontage. This is a very visible corner and wrapping the Landscaping proposed along Perkins over to the Main Street side would make this corner more attractive, according to meeting documents.

The buildings would be built all at one time.
