Inside Waukesha's new recovery high school: Crosspoint Academy (jsonline.com) — Students in Waukesha now have access to Crosspoint Academy, a new district recovery high school designed specifically for teens affected by substance use. The school's welcoming spaces, from common rooms to recovery‑focused classrooms and inspirational hallways, aim to blend academics with ongoing support during National Recovery Month and beyond for local families seeking specialized education options.
2. Ewald Family Foundation donates $1 million to Family Promise of Waukesha County (gmtoday.com) — A major boost is coming to Waukesha's efforts to help homeless families, with the Ewald Family Foundation donating $1 million toward a new 10‑unit temporary housing building in the city. The gift pushes Family Promise of Waukesha County's $8 million Building Hope campaign past the halfway mark, promising expanded capacity, on‑site support, and community space while still relying entirely on private funding.
3. Lawsuit unresolved over Waukesha Lake Michigan water project (dailyreporter.com) — An unresolved federal lawsuit over Waukesha's Lake Michigan water pipeline could eventually add up to $120 million to the project's cost, a burden that might show up on local water bills. With a trial set for February 2027, the city and contractor S.J. Louis are still battling over who caused delays and overruns on the 36‑mile pipeline that now supplies Waukesha's drinking water.
4. Former UW-Waukesha campus to be redeveloped into housing community (wisn.com) — Waukesha residents could see big changes near the former UW‑Waukesha campus, as the county moves to sell the 80‑acre site for a $150 million housing community with nearly 600 units. Neighbors are already raising traffic and neighborhood‑character concerns, and city approvals plus multiple project phases over about seven years will give locals chances to weigh in.
5. 2027 county budget lowers taxes, debt and boosts public safety (gmtoday.com) — Waukesha County's proposed 2027 budget would cut the property tax rate while steering millions more into public safety, emergency dispatch, and infrastructure projects that residents rely on. For Waukesha homeowners, that means a slightly lower tax bill, continued courthouse and road investments, and new funding for sheriff's deputies, body cameras, and mental health and veterans' services if the board approves it in November.
