Child Labor Law Overview for Employers at Workforce Development Center

Just in time for summer hiring, receive an overview of Wisconsin's laws relating to the employment of ages 17 and under.

The Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Centers invite business leaders to attend an Employer Open House on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at the Washington County Workforce Development Center, 2200 Green Tree Road, West Bend. In an effort to keep employers informed of human resource strategies as they prepare for summer hiring, expert Jim Chiolino will give an overview of Child Labor Laws. Networking begins at 7:30 am, followed by the presentation at 8:00 am and a Q&A session.

Jim Chiolino, Director of Wisconsin’s Labor Standards Bureau and Assistant Administrator of the Equal Rights Division at the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, will discuss Wisconsin’s Child Labor Laws relating to the employment of minors ages 17 and under. Topics being covered will include work prohibited to minors, exceptions to prohibited employment provisions (“student learner” provision), minimum wage and “opportunity” rates, and work permit requirements.

Jim Chiolino has been with the Department of Workforce Development since 1991. Jim has worked with both of the Equal Rights Division’s bureaus: the Civil Rights Bureau and the Labor Standards Bureau. He took a three-year hiatus from state service and practiced law in the area of Employment Law, representing employers.
