Come join a great team and drive with Waukesha Metro Transit. Operators are hired as part-time and then promoted to full-time when positions become available. Operators are employed by Professional Transit Management of Waukesha, Inc. and operate the Waukesha Metro Transit throughout the greater Waukesha area.A Part-time Operator’s are scheduled for approximately 30 hours per week and have ample opportunities for additional hours. All work assignments, including days off, are selected on the basis of seniority.Job Duties/ResponsibilitiesSafe operation of the transit vehicle while following routes and schedules.Informing customers about fares, routes, schedules, and operating rules.Announcing major intersections, transfer points, and points of interest.Assisting disabled passengers in boarding and exiting the vehicle.Prompt and regular attendance.Minimum RequirementsExcellent Driving Records - applicants must have a current, valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record.Superior Customer Service - strong customer service skills including interaction with customers, problem-solving and customer assistance.Good Work Record – with references and verifiable work experience.Part-time Operators are commercial drivers. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Instruction Permit will be required before starting training. A CDL must be acquired before completion of training. CDL training will be provided if necessary. Criminal Record CheckA criminal record check will be conducted. You are responsible for providing the location and duration of residence for each state in which you have lived in.Selection process consists of:Application ReviewInterviewDriving & Criminal Record ChecksReference and Work Verification ChecksMedical Evaluation and Drug Screen (post job offer)Training ProgramNew Operators are required to complete a 4-week training program. They must have a Wisconsin CDL or CDL Instruction Permit with Passenger endorsement and Air Brake. CDL training will be provided if trainee has CDL Instruction Permit.Rate of PayThe starting pay is $19.18 per hour. Operators receive a regular pay increase in accordance with the current labor agreement until the top rate of $23.97 is reached at 30 months.BenefitsPart-time Operators will be eligible for the following benefits:Group health insurance including visionGroup dental insuranceDisability InsuranceLife insurancePay increasesUniform allowanceSelect Paid holidaysEmployee Assistance ProgramTransit passPart-time Operators will be eligible for the following benefits after 12 months of employment:401k planPaid time offOther InformationAmalgamated Transit Union, Local 998 – Any and all employees working in classifications represented by the Union shall have the right to join or not to join the Union, as they individually prefer.120 Day Probationary Period – begins at completion of training period.Employment Eligibility – Professional Transit Management of Waukesha, Inc hires only people who are authorized to work in the United States. Employees are required to complete an I-9 form and provide documentation within three (3) days of hire.Per CDC order, all employees and passengers on the bus or in the Transit Center must wear a mask. There are also driver shields on the buses.
