Apple Harvest Festival

Join Retzer Nature Center for a day full of apple fun! Stroll through the scarecrow lane, indulge in some
homemade apple pie and take home some new found treasures from the various crafters.

Why is this year's tag line "It's not just apples?"

This year’s weather has made local apples pretty much unavailable, so we are not going to have our Apple Market. The 80 degree weather in early spring caused the apple trees to bloom early. Then sub-freezing temperatures (down to 26 degrees) killed the apple blossoms. No blossoms means no apples.

Due to the record heat and drought we have had in June and July, the few apples that are available are not of the quality you expect from us, and those few apples would be very expensive.

So…we decided not to fight a losing battle. We thought this was a teachable moment—that our weather and climate do indeed control the harvest that Mother Nature provides us. This year, the harvest won't include individual apples…however it will include other wonderful produce and products. So we decided that we would invite a variety of Farm Market Exhibitors, to take the place of the Apple Market this year.

We will still have lots of delicious Caramel Apples, Apple Pies, and Apple Crisp for you to enjoy! We all hope that the Apple Market will be back again next year.
