Ride of Silence

To HONOR those who have been injured or killedΒ
To RAISE AWARENESS that we are hereΒ
To ask that we all SHARE THE ROAD

2011 Ride of Silence will start in downtown Waukesha at the Waukesha State Bank parking lot, 100 Bank St., Waukesha, WI 53187, Wednesday, May 18th.Β  A memorial service that includes Pastor Rankin and family members of Brett Netke and Jeff Littmann will start at 6:30 p.m.Β  The ride will start at 7:00 p.m.

The Spring City Spinners Bicycle Club is hosting the Ride of Silence this year in Waukesha, Wisconsin.Β  We are riding in memory of Brett Netke and all other cyclists that have been injured or killed while riding.

The Ride of Silence is similar to a funeral procession.Β  The 5-mile ride will be slow (max 12 Miles/ 19 KM per hour), winding through Waukesha city streets. There will be no talking, only silence, to remember our fallen brothers and sisters.Β  Black armbands can be worn in memory of those who have been killed; red armbands for those injured while riding.

Over 700 cyclists are killed each year while riding.Β  Most deaths or injuries occur in our cities, and suburbs.Β  With this ride, we hope to educate motorists that cyclists have the legal right to the road and to watch out for us. We are, after all, moms and dads, brothers and sisters, sons and daughters.Β
