Fair To Help 8,500 Waukesha Residents Living With Dementia

More than 25 agencies will provide information and resources for caregivers of those with memory loss.

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI – The Oconomowoc Dementia Friendly Coalition says that there are more than 8,500 people living with dementia in Waukesha County, and that three out of every four live out of their homes.

The Coalition will be holding a Caregiver Resource Fair on Thursday, Sep. 20, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the ProHealth Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, 791 Summit Ave. in Oconomowoc to help people learn how to support a dementia-friendly community.

More than 25 agencies will provide information and resources for caregivers of those with memory loss. A variety of free health screenings including: vision, hearing, bone density and blood pressure will be offered during the event. Caregivers and the care-person, attending together, may want to participate in the onsite Memory Café provided from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Organizers say a community that is dementia friendly shows a high level of public awareness and understanding of dementia; is a place where an individual with dementia can live a good life, as independently as possible and be a part of their community and where persons with dementia are met with understanding and given support when necessary.
