Fundraiser Set Up For 6-Year-Old Battling Leukemia

Six-year-old Benny Thielitz of Waukesha has a long fight ahead of him, but people are making sure he and his family are getting help.

WAUKESHA, WI — Six-year-old Benny Thielitz of Waukesha has a long fight ahead of him, but community support is making sure he and his family are surrounded by compassionate helpers.

According to a CBS 58 report, Thielitz was diagnosed in Nov. 2017 with leukemia. On Friday of last week, Waukesha North High School stepped up, hosting a fundraiser to help Thielitz and his family.

According to the report, teachers and staff have stepped up to help out the family. In addition, T-Shirts and bracelets were sold before Friday night's basketball game.

"I think it's just been such a blessing to our whole family and so many different ways. It's helped us financially and it's helped us kind of boost morale and help them get through a tough time," said Betsie Thielitz in the CBS 58 report.

The family has set up a YouCaring page to help cover costly medical expenses associated with Benny's treatment.

He's gone through chemotherapy, a spinal tap, numerous treatments and blood transfusions so far since he was diagnosed. Family say they're going to be battling cancer over the next two to three years.
