Local nonprofit donates Turkey Trot apparel for those in need
Starting off 2019 right paying it forward to those in need by Operation Compassion thanks to the Kelly Johnson Foundation.
Starting off the year on the right with giving back to those in need with Operation Compassion, thanks to the Kelly Johnson Foundation– a nonprofit organization that donated more than 100 dri-fit long sleeve shirts from their local Turkey Trot.
Waukesha native and nonprofit founder Kelly Johnson never stops moving and doing great things for the community.
Johnson started her own nonprofit, the Kelly Johnson Foundation in September 2014. Since then, she has hosted over 10 different athletic events to raise funds for her Johnson Family Scholarship program for Wisconsin and Illinois high schools. Her most recent event, the Turkey Trot 5K raised over $2,000 and shared smiles over many miles in Brookfield, WI. The event was quite a success in terms of fundraising and community involvement and will be continuing into 2019.

“The holidays had me thinking about gift giving even more from an organizational perspective. Since we had extra dri-fit long sleeve shirts from our first annual Turkey Trot, I wanted to help out another nonprofit if I could.”
Johnson took the initiative to contact Operation Compassion, which accepts food, clothing, and other donations from US nonprofits and delivers them to children and families in need from poverty to disaster relief. The Waukesha native explained they were able to help coordinate the apparel donation in less than a week.
“It’s all about giving back to the community whether it’s near or far. I think the two boxes of our Turkey Trot shirts will be put to good use!” Johnson added. To give back or learn more about the Kelly Johnson Foundation and its programs, visit www.kjfwi.org/.

About Operation Compassion
Operation Compassion is an international and domestic humanitarian organization. Our strategic relief work delivers critical aid assisting 25 million people every year. Each pound of product delivered represents: a meal, for the hungry; a surgical pack, giving medical aid; a textbook, educating the future; a pair of shoes, for bare feet; clothes, for those in need. Since our beginning, we have helped start hundreds of nonprofit charities and trained tens of thousands of volunteers for humanitarian work and involved them in serving the poor.
