Patch.com reached out to Sensenbrenner's campaign to learn more about his candidacy for re-election. Here are his responses in his own words:
Name: Jim Sensenbrenner
Age: 75
Hometown: Menomonee Falls, WI
Occupation: Member of Congress
Please characterize where you fall on the political spectrum (liberal/moderate/conservative, etc.): My voting record reflects my consistent, conservative principles. This past year, I received the “Taxpayer Superhero” award from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste.
Please describe your relevant political experience: As the only candidate unanimously endorsed by the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s 5th Congressional District Caucus, I am energized to continue serving my constituents in Wisconsin’s Fifth Congressional District.
During my time in Congress, I have achieved a principled bi-partisan record as the lead sponsor on 500 bills or amendments, 99 of which passed the House, 34 that became law.
Please talk about the top 1 or 2 leading issues in your campaign and how you plan to approach them if re-elected: It is important that we keep prosperity growing by making middle class tax cuts permanent after 2025, and continuing to roll back job killing regulations.
During the last Congress, I was the principal House author of the flagship legislation to combat the opioid epidemic, the Comprehensive Addiction Recovery Act, which was overwhelmingly passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama. I want to go back to Washington next year to finish up the job, which means funding the bill to provide first responders, physicians and pharmacists with the resources they need to educate, treat, and prevent this epidemic from spreading.
I also introduced the Stopping Overdoses of Fentanyl Analogues (SOFA) Act, and will continue to work for its passage. There is no law making trafficking fentanyl analogues illegal, and the SOFA act does that. I will use my effectiveness to push both of these issues through Congress.
