Memorial Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Waukesha

WAUKESHA, WI — Across the United States, people will be celebrating Memorial Day on Monday, a national holiday to honor those who died in active military service.

Although it's a national holiday, most retail businesses around the village will be open. But it's always idea to call ahead and check.

Here's a look at how Memorial Day will affect institutions and services around Waukesha:

Village Government: Village Hall and village offices will be closed. Federal, state and county offices also will be closed.

Schools: No classes for the Waukesha School District

Waukesha Public Library: The library will be closed. The outside book return will be open.

Postal Service: No mail delivery, and all post offices will be closed.

Trash Pickup: During the holiday weeks of New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day, services will be bumped one day due to these holidays, if the holiday falls on a week day. Service will be normal the day before these holidays, if they are on a weekday (there is still pickup on the "eve" of the holidays).

Banks: Most financial institutions will be closed. Call ahead to be sure.
