Nyquist wins the 2016 Kentucky Derby

Coming into the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby as the odds-on favorite to win the race,  Nyquist didn't disappoint Saturday afternoon. Nyquist kept his perfect record intact, winning by holding off Exaggerator to win by one and one-quarter lengths. Gun Runner finished third.

Nyquist paid $6.60 to win on a $2 bet, $4.80 to place and $3.60 to show. Exaggerator paid $5.40 to place and $4.20 to show. Gun Runner paid $6.00 to show.

Nyquist is the first horse to go 8 for 8 since 1969 and the eighth unbeaten Kentucky Derby winner of all time.

The next leg of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes, will be run May 21.
