Obituary: Margaret H. Mussell

Waukesha woman, 88, passed away Saturday.

Margaret H. Mussell, of Waukesha, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care surrounded by her loving family at the age of 88 years.

Margaret was born the second of nine children to George and Erna (Trester) Stern on March 30, 1925 in Winona, MN. She was united in marriage to George H. Mussell on November 13, 1943, in Waukesha. The couple lived in Whitewater, Hartland and then returned to Waukesha. While living in Hartland, Margaret along with her husband, George, owned and operated the Phillips 66 and Shell gas stations and later owned and operated Mussell’s Sales and Service located in Stone Bank. She was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Margaret served as a Red Cross Nurse at Arrowhead High School and had served as President of the Hartland Fireman’s Auxiliary. She had also been a seven‑year member of the New London American Legion Auxiliary. Margaret loved to cook and entertain and was known for her family dinners, summer picnics, and theme birthday parties. She satisfied her love of travel with trips to visit family in Minnesota, Colorado, Maryland, Washington D.C., Jordan, and Guatemala, all chronicled in her many photo albums. Margaret will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be greatly missed.    

Margaret is survived by her son, Dale (Amy) Mussell and children, Meghan and Nathan Mussell, and daughter, Lynne (Arien) Herminath and their children, Sara (Mark) Medlin and David Herminath, and great-granddaughters, Katie and Elena Medlin. She is further survived by sisters, Norma Tabat, Marilyn Rawson, Charlotte (Paul) Kraft, Joanne (Donald) Vredenberg, and Susanne (Ralph) Luckeroth, brother, Charles (Shirley) Stern, and by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Mussell. Margaret was a beloved aunt to countless nieces and nephews. She is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, who passed away on August 1, 2010, her parents, George and Erna Stern, a sister, Elvera “Ginger” (Charles) Haley, brother, James Stern, and brother-in-laws, Joseph Tabat and Paul Rawson.

The visitation for Margaret will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the 12:00 p.m. Funeral Service on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1052 White Rock Ave., Waukesha, WI 53186. Rev. Larry Gates will be officiating. The entombment will immediately follow at Prairie Home Cemetery.
