ProHealth Care offers walk-in clinics for flu and pneumonia vaccinations

ProHealth Care is providing walk-in vaccinations at select ProHealth Care locations beginning Oct. 11.

WAUKESHA COUNTY -- ProHealth Care is ramping up for flu and pneumonia season by providing walk-in vaccinations at select ProHealth Care locations beginning Oct. 11.

The days and hours for the walk-in clinics can be found atProHealthCare.org/Flu. The walk-in clinics feature special seasonal pricing. ProHealth Care’s public walk-in flu clinics will be held in Mukwonago, New Berlin, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, Watertown and Waukesha.

“Annual vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against influenza,” said Steve Kulick, MD, chief medical officer for ProHealth Care. “Vaccination for the flu is needed every year because the body’s immune response from the vaccination declines over time. And, because flu viruses are constantly changing, the formula of the flu vaccine is updated each year.”

After vaccination, it takes approximately two weeks for antibodies to develop and provide protection against influenza. “That’s why we encourage individuals to get vaccinated early in the fall,” Dr. Kulick said.

ProHealth Care offers two vaccination options to protect against influenza this year — a vaccine that covers four strains of the flu (called a “quadrivalant” vaccine) and a high-dose vaccine. The four-strain vaccine is for those ages 6 months and older; the ProHealth Care walk-in clinic cost is $32 this season.

High-dose flu vaccine can be given to those who are at least 65 years old. The higher dose stimulates a better immune response against the flu in older people, who may have weaker immune systems. The cost to receive the high-dose flu vaccine at a ProHealth Care walk-in clinic this season is $55.
