UW-Waukesha Offering an Immersion into Sign Language

American Sign Language available for community members

This fall, UW-Waukesha Continuing Education is offering a new format for teaching American Sign Language (ASL), used as a primary means of communication by many deaf people in the United States and Canada. The class will be a complete immersion, with only sign language and visual-gesturing used in the classroom. Native deaf signer, Kimberly Cain, will lead by example and will include basic vocabulary, syntax, finger spelling, and grammatical non-manual signals. Students will develop gestural skills as a foundation for ASL enhancement and complete the class with an appreciation and cultural knowledge of the deaf community. All community members are invited to enroll in this class. More information can be found at www.waukesha.uwc.edu/ce.
