Waukesha County To Host New Summer Programs In 2019

WAUKESHA COUNTY, WI — The Waukesha County Parks department is rolling out several new summer programs for children in 2019 that will run in June, July and August. The new programs highlight nature, exploration, science, and recreational fun.
“Spending time outdoors in Waukesha County parks is what summer is all about,” said Department of Parks and Land Use Director Dale Shaver in a statement to Patch. “We are incredibly excited to introduce the next generation to nature and science through these unique programs.”
The Waukesha County Environmental Education Team will host the following programs:

Wild Wednesdays
Children ages 5 to 12 are invited to Retzer Nature Center and the Horwitz-DeRemer Planetarium to
discover science! The fee is $6 per child for the 2-1/2 hour program. Kids should bring their own lunch. Registration required by the Monday before the program at waukeshacounty.maxgalaxy.net.

Wednesday, June 12 and 26 – Summer Solstice and Seasons (Two times: 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.)
Learn about the seasons at the pond and watch a planetarium show about the stars.
Wednesday, July 10 and 24 – Flight (Two times: 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.)
Learn about feathered flyers, examine an owl pellet and watch a planetarium show.
Wednesday, August 7 and 21 – Sun (Two times: 10 a.m. or 11:30 a.m.)
Discover solar energy, build a solar oven to toast s’mores and watch a planetarium show.
Discover Your Parks
Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to discover a new park each month with hands-on activities exploring the park from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. The fee is $35 per child and will take place rain or shine. Kids should bring their own lunch. Registration required two weeks before the program at waukeshacounty.maxgalaxy.net.
Thursday, June 27 – Discover Fox Brook Park
Make your own paper, go fishing, discover flying insects and animals, and take a swim.
Thursday, July 11 – Discover Menomonee Park
Make your own paper, try archery, discover flying insects and animals, and take a swim.
Wednesday, August 7 – Discover Retzer Nature Center
Learn about recycling, discover insects and animals, use a solar oven, and see a planetarium show.
