Waukesha County Man Sentenced To Life For Killing Father

Samuel J. Eichstaedt was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide last month and handed a lifetime sentence by a judge on Friday.

WAUKESHA, WI —A man who had been living in the village of Waukesha was sentenced to life in prison Friday in Waukesha County Circuit Court for the 2020 killing of his father, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

On June 4, a 12-person jury had found Samuel J. Eichstaedt, 27, guilty of first-degree intentional homicide in a case stemming from Eichstaedt's attack on his father Gary, which led to the latter's death two weeks later.

On Friday, Waukesha County Circuit Court Judge Paul Bugenhagen handed down a life sentence to Eichstaedt, the Journal Sentinel reported. Bugenhagen also heard from Eichstaedt's family members - including Gary's younger brother and granddaughter - who reportedly expressed concern about any possible release from prison for the younger Eichstaedt.

Eventually, Bugenhagen agreed Eichstaedt should not be entitled to extended supervision as part of his life sentence, meaning Eichstaedt would not be able to serve any of his sentence outside of prison.

Eichstaedt was immediately remanded to custody to begin serving his life sentence, with credit for the 233 days he had already served. There was no immediate statement about whether he planned to appeal his conviction or sentence, according to the Journal Sentinel.
