Waukesha Crossing Guard Company Closes, City Scrambling

Officials said that there may be no crossing guards at previously assigned locations on Monday.

WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha school officials say law enforcement is scrambling to cover school crossing guard posts after the company that provides crossing guards shut down.

On Sunday afternoon, Waukesha School District officials said they were notified by the Waukesha Police Department that the company that the city contracts with for crossing guards is going out of business.

Officials said that there may be no crossing guards at previously assigned locations on Monday.

The Waukesha Police Department and the district are coordinating to provide coverage at as many locations as possible.

Also, school officials said the Waukesha Police Department is in the process of contacting another company to execute a contract as soon as possible, to ensure that there is not an extended gap in services.

According to the district, officials made the decision public Sunday in the event parents need to change transportation plans for children with as much advanced notice as possible.
