WCA demonstrates the importance of school choice during back to school event
Appleton, Wis. (Aug. 29, 2016) – As students around the state head back to school, Wisconsin Connections Academy (WCA), the state’s first full-time, tuition-free virtual public charter school for all students in grades K-12 across the state, has found in a new independent survey, supported by Connections Education, that a majority of millennial parents are supportive of alternative approaches to education.

The results of the survey showed that a majority of Americans, 76 percent, feel that K-12 public school students should be able to choose tuition-free online learning options, like WCA, to meet their individual learning needs. Much of this has to do with online school’s ability to better-personalize education based upon student need.
“We live in a world where not every child learns the same, in the same way, at the same time,” Michelle Muller, principal of WCA said. “It’s important the public knows that when the general population of students are boarding buses and waiting in school lunch lines, that a smaller group of their peers are staying home and completing their education online.”

To kick-off the back-to-school season, Wisconsin Connections Academy is hosting an in-person Back to School celebration in September for enrolled students across the state. Families will be able to meet their teachers, participate in a National Honor Society induction ceremony and learn about the school’s learning management system. Most importantly, families will be able to connect with each other.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming students and their parents back-to-school this week,” Mueller said. “Kicking-off this year with our Back to School celebration, and showcasing to the community all that our school has to offer will reinforce the important role WCA plays in the education landscape of our city and state.”
