Young, Local Entrepreneur Opens Pet Store for Neighbors and their Pets

Pet Supplies Plus will open a location on Friday, March 17th at 1460 Olympia Fields Drive in Oconomowoc and will offer local pet parents a hassle-free way to find better products for their pets, while saving them money and celebrating the fun of pet ownership. In addition, the store will offer amenities such as self-pet wash stations, a knowledgeable pet care team and carry-out service in which team members carry heavy items to neighbors’ cars.

The store is owned by local entrepreneur Nikki Differt and her parents. In addition to being a co-owner, Differt will also serve as manager of the Oconomowoc location. As a life-long animal lover, she is thrilled to be creating a space for pet owners to shop and care for their pets. Differt grew up in nearby Hartford surrounded by geckos, hamsters, sugar gliders, fish and of course, dogs. Even while earning a degree in human resources, she kept her passion for animals alive by spending as much time as she could in the outdoors.

Now, Differt is harnessing her professional experiences after spending months shadowing multi-unit Pet Supplies Plus franchisee Dave Heather to help launch her own entrepreneurial journey at the age of 25. As a community partner, Differt and her parents will partner with the Waukesha county humane society HAWS in addition to other rescue organizations and non-profits to host year-round adoption events, fundraisers and pet food and product drives.

“Having worked in a number of Pet Supplies Plus stores, I developed an appreciation for the tight-knit community that is present in each and every store,” Differt said. “Like so many people, my relationship with my pets is a deeply personal one, and I think that relationship should be mirrored by the experience you have when shopping for your scaly, furry or feathery friends. I am really excited to open the doors here in Oconomowoc, so I can start getting to know our community of pet parents and investing in their specific needs.”

To welcome the community, Differt and her team will host a weekend-long grand opening event. Beginning on Saturday, April 15 and continuing through Sunday, April 16, the new Pet Supplies Plus will offer special prize giveaways, sale prices and more. The primary giveaways are as follows:

• Saturday, April 15 – Sunday, April 16 – Neighbors have a shot at winning a complimentary, one-year supply of dog or cat food.
• Saturday, April 15 – Sunday, April 16 – Pet Supplies Plus will offer complimentary nail trims and dog washes for pets.
• Saturday, April 15 – Mystery scratch cards, between the amounts of $5-$10, will be given to neighbors throughout the day.
• Sunday, April 16 – First 100 people will receive one free small bag of dog or cat food.
