Your Pets Safety in the Heat

Advice on keeping your pets safe in the dangerous hot temperatures headed our way.

The heat index is expected to rise Thursday and Friday this week. It is best that your pets remain indoors in a climate controlled area. When your pet is outside be sure that they have protection from the heat, some type of shade or shelter. In addition, make sure there is plenty of fresh cool water accessible to them. If you need to take Fido on his daily walk do it in the morning or evening when the temperature is not as extreme.

PLEASE do not leave your pets unattended in your car. Even with the windows open slightly the temperature can reach deadly levels. In the sun, temperatures can rise 30 degrees per minute.

Wisconsin recently passed a new law providing civil immunity to anyone forcibly entertaining a vehicle to save a child or pet that is in danger.You must take these steps to be protected by the law:

  1. Make sure that the vehicle is actually locked.
  2. Check to see if an adult responsible for the child or pet is nearby.
  3. Call 911
  4. Use only as much force as necessary to break into the vehicle.
  5. Remain with the child or pet until authorities arrive.

Be sure to enjoy the summer weather, but be cautious with your pets!
