1. Wausau School District Presents 2027 Budget at Annual Meeting (wsau.com) — Wausau residents are being told the 2027 Wausau School District budget is on track to be balanced, with a projected mill rate dip to $6.54 per $1,000, though individual tax bills may still rise. The board is also seeking state approval for an early Aug. 27, 2027 school start to give contractors more time for Riverview Elementary roof repairs.
2. Wausau school board adopts seal of biliteracy (wsaw.com) — Wausau families should know the school board just approved full implementation of the Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy across district schools and an early Aug. 24, 2027 start to the 2027-28 year. The earlier calendar aims to give Wausau schools more time for construction and upgrades, while the language seal can boost students' transcripts and job prospects.
3. Wisconsin Measles Cases Reach 192 After 21 Added Friday as Travel-Linked Infections Surface in Marathon County (medicaldaily.com) — Marathon County, home to Wausau, now has three confirmed measles cases in 2026, all linked to out-of-state travel but still capable of local spread. Health officials urge Wausau-area families to check MMR vaccination records, watch for symptoms, and call ahead before visiting clinics. Statewide, 192 cases have been confirmed, with wastewater testing and contact tracing ongoing.
4. October 2026 Opportunities: Open Calls, Residencies, and Grants for Artists (thisiscolossal.com) — Artists in and around Wausau can apply for the Glass Box Studio residency on the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum campus, which offers honorariums plus covered travel, meals, and materials.
