27-Year-Old Woman Shot and Killed, Wounded Man Called for Help

Police have identified the 27-year-old woman who was shot and killed in Milwaukee overnight. A man wounded in the shooting called for help.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee Police are investigating a homicide and non-fatal shooting that happened around 8:15 p.m. on January 23 in the 2800 block of S. 12th Street.

Officers responding to a report of a shooting located a 27-year-old female victim inside of a residence. She died on scene despite lifesaving efforts. A 28-year-old male also suffered gunshots wounds but was able to flee the residence and call for help.

According to a Journal Sentinel report, the female victim was identified as Maryory Roig-Cartagena, and was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene. The man was able to call for help after being shot and wounded.

Investigators are seeking a known male suspect, whose identity has not been publicly released. Police did not specify a motive or any circumstances surrounding the shooting.

He is currently being treated for serious injuries at a local hospital. Both of the victims are from Milwaukee. The circumstances surrounding this incident, including identifying the actor(s) are ongoing.
