Highlighting the Low Countries in the Heart of the Village

Cafe Hollander's Tosa location just celebrated its second anniversary in the community.

The business model for the Lowland Group, a local restaurant concern, is to choose locations in neighborhoods with a character and identity that matches its atmosphere and offerings. is no exception.

Having just celebrated the second anniversary of its opening in the Wauwatosa Village, the lowland European-style grand cafe offers breakfast, lunch, dinner and Saturday and Sunday brunches.

โ€œWe are so happy to be part of the community,โ€ said Kristin Godfrey, marketing director for Lowland.ย

The restaurant offers an expansive place for that community with its wrap-around bar and casual seating on two floors. Cafe Hollanderโ€™s outdoor patio seems to be the perfect place to sit with friends, enjoy a Belgian beer and watch the Village bustle by during the warm-weather months.ย

Serving food until midnight every day, the cafe offers a menu filled with breakfast, lunch and dinner items, with soups, salads, appetizers, eggs-all-day, burgers, sandwiches, selected entrees and desserts.ย

The cafeโ€™s Rosemary Goat Cheese Mac might be the ultimate comfort food, but customers have their favorites, said Godfrey. The half-pound prime beef Lion Burger and the Avocado Chicken Wrap with bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion with the sriracha mayo wrapped in a flour tortilla are among them. But really anything served with their sweet potato frites canโ€™t miss.ย

Cafe Hollanderโ€™s brunch on Saturday and Sunday is a weekly treat for guests. Omelets, French toast, waffles and variations of eggs Benedict are on the brunch menu. But itโ€™s been said that the banana coconut pancakes โ€” coconut pancakes topped with caramelized bananas, shredded coconut, candied walnuts, caramel syrup and topped with whip cream โ€“ can easily become an obsession.

โ€œDuring the season, our chef goes to the Wauwatosa farmers market and selects fresh, locally grown items for brunch specials,โ€ Godfrey said. โ€œSo every week itโ€™s a treat to see what he creates from those items.โ€ย

Of course thereโ€™s a Friday fish fry. โ€œThis is Wisconsin, after all,โ€ Godfrey said.

The restaurant also has gluten-free and kids' menus. And desserts are always a sweet ending to any delicious meal. The Gulden Draak Fudge Brownie with chocolate sauce and bourbon cream may be the sweetest ending of all.

The restaurant draws patrons with its selection of imported beer โ€“ mostly Belgian โ€“ delicious food and an inviting atmosphere. Weekly specials take on a festival feel with activities that include Trivia Monday and Beero Sunday โ€“ an iteration of Bingo with, you guessed it, beer โ€“ as well as card and board games to play.

Second-floor banquet room available for private parties of up to 130 guests.ย
