Body Armor Saves Officers Life After Targeted by Armed Robberry Suspect

Armed robbery suspect fatally shot by police during reported gunfire exchange during foot chase.

MILWAUKEE — An apparent armed robbery attempt at the O'Reilly Auto Parts store near 76th and Mill St. overnight turned deadly when officers fatally shot the suspect after the suspect reportedly fired multiple rounds at officers during the course of a foot chase.

The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Burt Johnson, who was pronounced dead on-scene.

According to the FOX 6 report, body armor reportedly saved the life of one officer, a 38-year-old man with several year of experience on the force, after he was reportedly struck by gunfire from the suspect. The officer was taken to the hospital with "significant contusions," Chief Flynn said. The officer was released from the hospital Friday morning.
