'Bow Tie' Comes Home

Beloved deer known for "bow tie" marking on neck was illegally poached in 2015. Shoulder Mount of Deer to be Presented to Nature Center.

WAUWATOSA — "Bow Tie" an 11-point buck with the unusual “bowtie” marking is finally coming back home.

A 29-year-old Brookfield business owner had been accused of poaching the 12-point buck with a crossbow in the Menomonee River Parkway in Wauwatosa in December 2015. The unusual-looking deer had been a common and welcome site in the area and had been featured in wildlife magazines and calendars for his unique appearance.

Because the deer was illegally harvested, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confiscated it. With support from the donors, the Parks Department requested that the deer be released to the taxidermist on behalf of Milwaukee County. The mount will be returned for display at Milwaukee County’s primary environmental education center, Wehr Nature Center, where staff will use Bow Tie in interpretive educational programs for schoolchildren.
