The Common Council approved the operating budget for 2021 which introduced a few changes to the Drop Off Center.
Changes to Hours and Fees
- We will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting in 2021 (instead of Tuesdays and Saturdays).
- The fee to drop of refuse/construction debris/furniture will be adjusted to a sliding scale based on the quantity of items you bring in. The lowest fee will be $8 and the highest fee will be $90.
Why are we making these changes?
The City’s transfer station will no longer be in operation in 2021, so we must hire a service to haul dumpsters to the landfill which will increase the costs to operate the Drop Off center. The transfer station is in need of replacement due to its age and will be demolished in 2022. It is more cost effective to haul refuse collected at the curbside directly to a landfill instead of reconstructing the transfer station.

How can I tell how much I will be charged?
See below. We have given examples of quantities you can generally fit within certain vehicles. While this is not exact or all inclusive, it gives you a good idea of what you will likely be charged. If you break your items down before you arrive at the Drop Off Center you may be able to reduce the amount you will be charged.
What other options exist to dispose of items?
Consider breaking your items down and placing them inside of your curbside collection cart. If you have furniture or other items that are not overly worn or broken consider donating them to a local organization. You could also consider using a dumpster service or scheduling a special collection through the City by calling (414) 471-8422.
