We are currently in phase B of these guidelines. However, the key indicators in Wauwatosa demonstrate progress towards phase C. We look at key indicators, such as positive tests of COVID-19, contact tracing within 24 hours of test results, and hospital bed capacity, on a local level in Wauwatosa and at a county level in Milwaukee County.

Effective Wednesday, June 10, our public health officials in Wauwatosa now can recommend gatherings of 50 people or less. "The data is showing Wauwatosa residents and businesses are doing a good job of enacting best practices and being cognizant of their neighbors’ health and safety," says Laura Conklin, health officer of Wauwatosa.

Why are we only moving to Phase C for mass gatherings only?

This is to ensure a thoughtful and data-driven approach before we move to Phase C in totality.

"I am cautiously optimistic that our positive cases will continue on the same downward trend, and we can continue to meet state statute on contact tracing. I do not want to move too quickly to Phase C so as to cause a spike in cases," says Conklin.

When we will fully be in Phase C?

The Wauwatosa Health Department continues to monitor key indicators and publishes consistent updates on their social media and on Wauwatosa.net.

Businesses should continue to follow industry-specific guidelines. People can consult CDC guidelines on preventing spread, such as hand washing, avoiding close contact, cleaning, and monitoring your health.
