A Crime of Beauty: Woman Faces Charges After Attempted Sephora Heist

WAUWATOSA —An 18-year-old Milwaukee woman faces criminal charges after police say she attempted to walk away with more than $1,000 in beauty products by concealing them in her purse.

City of Wauwatosa Police Officer Evan Olson reports that on May 12, 2016 he was monitoring Mayfair Mall’s security radio channel and heard that there was an ongoing retail theft at Sephora.

Olson reports that upon arrival he spoke to an employee who stated that he was monitoring surveillance when he observed a woman later identified as Allyse Jones select and place multiple items in her purse. Jones then made no attempt to purchase the items and walked past the last point of sale.

Olson said that he obtained a statement from Jones on May 12, 2016. Jones admitted that she entered Sephora, concealed “about 20 items” and left the store without making any effort to pay for them and without consent.

Jones has been charged with one count of FELONY RETAIL THEFT - INTENTIONALLY TAKE (> $500 - $5000). If convicted, she could face up to 18 months behind bars and up to $10,000 in fines.
