'Election Integrity Teams' to Monitor Milwaukee County Polls

If you head to the polls on Tuesday, you might see some extra observers monitoring voter and poll worker activity.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- If you head to the polls on Tuesday, you might see some extra observers monitoring voter and poll worker activity.

That's because Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel is deploying "election integrity teams" to polling places in your area.

“Voters in Wisconsin must have faith that when they cast their ballot, the integrity of their vote will be protected,” Attorney General Brad Schimel said in a prepared statement. “Our election integrity teams are well prepared to protect the democratic process in our state on Election Day.”

The role of the "election integrity team" is to monitor polling sites for electioneering, misconduct or wrongful denial of someone's right to vote.

Schimel announced that teams would be deployed in the counties Brown, Dane, Outagamie, Rock, Milwaukee, as well as the cities of Eau Claire, Kenosha, La Crosse, Racine, Stevens Point, Waukesha and Wausau.

According to a Kenosha News report, teams are targeted to populous areas in the state and to areas where they can respond quickly to complaints, according to Rebecca Ballweg, spokeswoman for the Wisconsin Department of Justice.

“In the event that a polling site without a DOJ monitor requires assistance, the DOJ election monitor teams are located in a fashion that allows them to quickly respond anywhere in the state if they are requested by local elected officials and local law enforcement,” she said to the Kenosha News.

Any potential violations during Election Day can be reported to local election authorities, municipal clerks or law enforcement. Online complaints can also be reported to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, or by calling 1-866-VOTE-WIS.
