Five Community Leaders Join Medical College of Wisconsin Board

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) recently welcomed five new trustees to its board: John Donofrio; David Lubar; Vincent P. Mathews, MD; Chris Miskel; and R. Jan Pirozzolo-Mellowes.

The MCW Board of Trustees provides strategic direction to support the institution’s four core missions: patient care, education, research, and community engagement. The elected members of the board are business executives, philanthropists, and distinguished community leaders who pool their wealth of knowledge and experience to advance these missions to enhance the health and vitality of our community.

John Donofrio is executive vice president and general counsel of Johnson Controls. He also serves on the board of directors of FARO Technologies, Inc., where he is chairman of the nominating and governance committee. Donofrio has a degree in chemical engineering from Rutgers College of Engineering and a Juris Doctor and a Master of Laws in trade regulation from George Washington University Law Center.

David Lubar is the president and CEO of Lubar & Co. Mr. Lubar joined Lubar & Co. in 1983 and today leads the company’s daily operations as president and CEO. Previously, he spent five years in commercial banking at Norwest Bank (now known as Wells Fargo Bank). He has served as lead investor and a director to more than 20 companies in a wide range of industries and in various stages of business development. He currently serves as a director of several private companies as well as Milwaukee Brewers, Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. and BMO Financial Corp. He also serves or has served on the Board of several non-profit organizations, including Greater Milwaukee Committee (chair-elect), University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Business Advisory Council (chairman), Milwaukee Jewish Federation (former chairman), Froedtert Health (former chairman), United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County (former chairman) and Greater Milwaukee Foundation. Mr. Lubar received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bowdoin College in 1977 and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Minnesota in 1982.

Vincent P. Mathews, MD, is the James E. Youker Endowed Chair in Radiology and tenured professor in the MCW department of radiology. He joined MCW in 2014, and his research focuses on the fields of functional magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and brain functioning in adolescents. In October 2018, Dr. Mathews was named president-select of the American Board of Radiology and received its Lifetime Service Award in 2010. He is also a member of the Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Neuroradiology, American Society of Pediatric Neuroradiology, American Society of Spine Radiology, American Medical Association and the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville (Indiana) and medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Chris Miskel is president and CEO of Versiti, a non-profit organization headquartered in Milwaukee. Versiti serves patients locally in need of organ and tissue transplant; customers nationally in transfusion medicine and esoteric diagnostic testing; and conducts internationally renowned blood research. Miskel earned a bachelor’s degree cum laude in accounting from Butler University and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. He also was a three-year starter and 1996 MVP on Butler’s basketball team and was named an Academic All-American in 1995. Miskel currently sits on the Butler University Business School Dean’s Advisory Council.

R. Jan Pirozzolo-Mellowes is a partner and intellectual property lawyer with Foley & Lardner LLP, where she focuses on patent, trademark and copyright litigation. Her work involves various industries and technical areas, including software, chemical compositions, medical devices, mechanical devices, DNA sequencing, pharmaceuticals, and architectural works. She is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice and the Life Sciences Industry team. Ms. Pirozzolo-Mellowes serves as a trustee on the Charter Manufacturing Foundation Board and is Secretary for the Milwaukee Ballet Board of Directors. She also serves on the United Way Women’s Leadership Council as well as the Jewish Community Center Rainbow Day Camp Committee, and is a co-founder of the Milwaukee Fashion Initiative. Ms. Pirozzolo-Mellowes received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
