Wauwatosa police are urging residents to act with caution after a police association out of Florida appears to be posing as a local group.

WAUWATOSA, WI — Wauwatosa police are urging residents to act with caution after a police association out of Florida appears to be posing as a local group.

According to Wauwatosa Police, residents have notified authorities that they have received both phone and mail solicitations requesting money for donations to the "National Police and Troopers Association."

According to reports, people were directed to send donations to a Wauwatosa PO Box.

Wauwatosa police say that the "National Police and Troopers Association" is not affiliated with the Wauwatosa police department.

As it turns out, the NPTA is actually the trade name of the International Union of Police Associations out of Flordia, and was ranked as the seventh-worst charity in America according to the Tampa Bay Times. Wauwatosa Police say donations to this organization are not tax deductible.
