Man Makes 20 Fraudulent Returns in 1 Month, Faces Charges

The total loss to the local business was determined to be $1,142.35.

WAUWATOSA — A 33-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of stealing more than $1,000 from the local O'Reilly Auto Parts store after police say he made 20 fraudulent returns over the course of one month as a store employee.

Police say Lane King, 33, Milwaukee, was caught making 20 fake returns of "mostly wiper blades and light bulbs" after a store manager noticed King made the most returns of any associate in the region "which was a red flag," according to King's criminal complaint.

The total loss to the company was determined to be $1,142.35.

King's criminal complaint also states that King also stole more than $3,000 in cash after police say he used another man's debit card without permission.


A printout of the charges to the card made by the defendant showed that he conducted a total of 40 ATM transactions between 11/25/15 and 12/30/15 for a total loss of $4,205.78. He stated he is currently in drug treatment and will pay back the money, according to the complaint.

According to court records, King entered into a deferred prosecution agreement on May 10, and initially faced up to 3 years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.
